Dear all

On Monday night we have a committee meeting starting at 7.15pm.  We welcome Anita Dixon-Lewis and Liz Eddington to the committee.

The rehearsal livestream link is: https://www.youtube.com/live/0wxm7JaObz4, and we will be studying sections 41, 44 and 12.

In case you have not heard, Richard Lloyd sadly died peacefully last weekend.  Richard was a stalwart member of the Society for many years and was an extremely able Orchestral Manager.  He will be sorely missed by us all and especially by the tenor section.  We have written to his wife Ann.  We will let you have his funeral details as soon as they are available.  We are very grateful to Annis Clarke for becoming our new Orchestral Manager.

Also, Ann Birdsall died last Tuesday 7th October. She was a former soprano of very long standing (since 1973) in the choir but had been ill for some time.  We have sent our condolences to her family.  We have received this email from Ann's son Andrew:

Dear Secretary,

Many thanks for the lovely card we received today from Alison and the Choral Society acknowledging Ann's recent passing. As you will know, the Society was a big part of Mum's life over several decades and brought her an immense amount of pleasure, both musically and from the wonderful friendships she made as a result of her membership. Please could we ask you to pass on our grateful thanks to the members, and secondly, to let them know of her funeral arrangements:

The service and reception will be at the Memorial Woodlands, Earthcott Road, Bristol BS35 3TA, on Monday 3rd November at 2pm. Members are warmly invited to join family and friends on this occasion.

Please could members planning to attend let us know as soon as possible, and also whether both partners in a couple will be coming, if applicable. This will assist us in planning the catering.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible to say goodbye to Mum.

With all best wishes,

Richard, Andrew, Martin and Nick

Musical Director (for September 2026)

The closing date for applications was yesterday and we have received 6 applications for the post.  They will be considered at Monday's committee meeting.  We will shortlist a few to be interviewed and to conduct a rehearsal in the near future.

Advance notice: we have booked St Mary's Church for our rehearsal on Monday 10 November.

Best wishes,
Mike Elcock
