Dear Members,
I hope you have had a peaceful Christmas, enjoyed singing carols, meeting friends and family and are looking forward to the New Year. We start rehearsals for our Spring concert (May 16th) on Monday 5th January. We shall be singing Rossini’sPetite Messe Solennelle (Ricordi or New Novello Edition).
We have a fun Skittles Evening planned for Saturday January 31st in the Skittle Alley of The Wheatsheaf public house, (opposite the URC), at 7.30pm. Here we can order Ploughman’s suppers for £13.00 including a tip and food for the young people who will set up the Skittles. Do come and join us. Lists available at the first meeting and ordersand payment are needed by 26th January. Please pay in cash to me by that date. Thank you.
Our TCS Workshop will be on Saturday 28th February in the Methodist Church, Alveston, because of the parking costs in Thornbury. We will be singing choruses from Verdi’s brilliant Requiem. Booking Forms will be available at the first meeting or from the website. Please support this venture and stay to lunch if possible as we try to raise as much money as we can towards our concerts and for our chosen charity, Children’s Hospice South West, with a retiring collection. If you would like to help, please sign up to either bring a salad or bake a cake or dessert for the day and thank you to those who have already offered to help.
Thanks again to all who helped with the last concert in November where we managed to fill the church with a very appreciative audience; to Angela for a very enjoyable social evening and to Kate for our carol singing. The Gables audience also enjoyed our singing.
Jos Gregson will be collecting bookings for the South Cotswold Big Sing Group Workshop on April 11th from Monday 5th January which is part-preparation for another memorable Cheltenham Festival concert on July 4th 2026 in Tewkesbury Abbey.
Please keep in mind that we will be needing a new Treasurer from September 2026 and if you think you could help with this, please have a chat to our current treasurer, Geoff Stevens, this term.
Thank you for your support and Happy New Year,
Alison
