Dear all
It was good to see you all last Monday in our new temporary venue. It was great to welcome our new Director of Music and to see so many new members as well at our AGM and first rehearsal. There were 82 singers including 11 who are new/returning. Welcome all to Thornbury Choral Society! There were a number of members who were away and we hope to welcome even more prospective members next week.
Next Monday, we will be meeting from 7.30-9.00pm at the Cossham Hall. (This is now our regular time and venue at least until the next concert while the URC is being refurbished.) We will continue to look at the Faure Requiem. Having used my New Novello edition on Monday, I found it difficult to follow as the page numbers and lettering are different, and there are no bar numbers. I would therefore recommend you use the Oxford University Press edition which you can borrow free of charge from Lyn, our librarian, if you haven't already. The bar is open afterwards and it was good to see so many singers socialising afterwards. The livestream link for Monday will be: https://www.youtube.com/ live/hz1dUteYLMw
Alison our chairman says:
Good to see so many of you last Monday and hope you enjoyed the rehearsal and the opportunity to mingle afterwards in the foyer bar.
We will try and improve the lighting and seating arrangements next Monday.
We hope Gareth will include a warm up next week and may use the stage if we stand up.
We await the score notes and will make these available via the website asap.
Thank you and enjoy your singing!
Margaret Pinder has pointed out that there will be road closures on the A38 from 25 September for the rest of the year. You can see more details here: https:// a38andbswactivetravel. commonplace.is/news/a38- overnight-resurfacing-and- washingpool-hill-road- junction-works It will be necessary to follow road diversions on occasions for those coming from that direction.
Jos Gregson has asked me to ask you if you know of any Finnish speakers who could help with pronunciation next summer with the Big Sing? The South Cotswold Big Sing Group will be singing Finlandia in Finnish as part of their concert in the Cheltenham Festival next July in Gloucester Cathedral and any help will be gratefully received. Jos can be contacted by email: josgregson@gmail.com
See you all next Monday.
Best wishes,
Mike Elcock
