Dear members and enquirers!

Here we are in September already!  I hope you have all had a good break and are looking forward to singing this term.  This is a new chapter in the life of Thornbury Choral Society and we very much look forward to welcoming Gareth Morris (Gaz), our new Director of Music.

On Monday, we will be in the Cossham Hall in Chapel Street down the road from the URC, and we meet at 7.30pm for the AGM.  All the papers are on the front page of the website if you do not have them.  If you cannot attend, please send your apologies.  If you would like to find out more about the treasurer's role, please ask.  Geoff is still looking for a replacement.  We could also do with another one or two new members for the committee in a general capacity.  We meet about 6 times a year and it is not onerous..

Following that, we have our first rehearsal with Gaz.  The music we will be singing this term is as follows:

Faure's Requiem (using the OUP edition)
Durufle's Quatre motets (Durand) - this includes Ubi caritas
Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols (Stainer & Bell)
Carols from Carols for Choirs 1, 2, 3 & 100 Carols

Loan copies are available free of charge and paper copies of the carols will be available as and when we need them.

After the rehearsal at 9pm, the Armstrong bar will be open as a trial run until 10pm.  This will be a good opportunity to catch up and meet new members.  If it is successful, this could be a regular feature after rehearsals.  (We will not be having a welcome evening the following week as we cannot bring in our own food and drink.)

If you cannot make it on Monday, you can catch up or watch the livestream here: https://www.youtube.com/live/lBzzsmV2pDA

Help with learning these pieces can be found here: https://www.thornburychoralsociety.org.uk/dbpage.php?pg=learning&repgroup=Status

Choir cards, as available at Steven's farewell party, will be available for a donation on the Reception Table.  (We suggest a minimum of £1 per card.)  Thank you.

As always, if you have any queries, please look at the website or ask us.  I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Best wishes,
Mike Elcock
